I Am Not…

…a food photographer.  It is said that you “need” to have some sort of attachment to your subject if it has any chance of being a good photograph.  I’m not sure about that, but what I do know, at least for me, is that if you don’t really enjoy photographing it, it probably won’t look so hot.  Case in point, above.

I couldn’t resist with this though.  Found this recipe when I visited Charlotte at Butterbean Row this week.  It reminded me of something I have not had in a long time, called Monkey Bread.  Kind of a pull-apart, oh so yummy cinnamon raisin bread.  Anyway, I had to make it, and it did look rather nice, so I had to photograph it if I was going to share it with you!

Now it’s not that I don’t love food.  Oh, I do, especially things such as this cinnamon bread, but anytime I look at food through my camera, it just looks sort of blah.  I truly admire those who so beautifully style and photograph yummy things, but the fact is, my camera and I simply do not play well with food!

Now this?  Yes, this is more like it for me.

BUT, I will see you next week with cookie photos.  The baking is almost done!

Have a fantastic weekend!

  • You did a wonderful job with the monkey bread photo (and the baking by the looks of it)! All its nooks, crannies and tastiness are show up! I love the ornament photo too. It looks so beautiful against the wood grain. I hope you are enjoying your holiday season Lisa! :)

  • Lisa this still looks SO good! I got in the mail yesterday’s Ottolenghis cookbook Jerusalem and there was a similar looking recipe which I am dying to try!

And on food photography, it is SO different isn’t it?! It has been a huge learning curve for me to go from fashion into food. In the end I am figuring out that light is even more important (if that is possible to say) when its edible haha. And yes, you definitely have to be looooving what you are photographing ;)

I cannot wait to see your cookie post! Instagram has got me drooling

  • Beverly

Wow, the aroma from the warm cinnamon and raisins just arrived at my place!! :) You have made a pretty one, and I like how you’ve put it in a loaf pan….all the ones I’ve seen were made in a Bundt pan and would serve a large group. Love the heart, and warm oak wood behind it! Enjoy the bread. I’m craving warm gingerbread myself. xo Bev
